Popular comedian, actor, and TV panellist, Miles Jupp appeals to audiences young and old as an  awards host  and  after dinner  speaker.

Now the host of Radio 4’s The News Quiz (taking over from Sandi Toksvig ), Miles’ career has flourished since its roots in stand-up comedy.

Winning two ‘new act’ competitions—Channel 4’s So You Think You’re Funny and The Leicester Mercury Comedian Of The Year—he soon became a regular performer on BBC Scotland’s Live Floor Show, and was nominated for the Perrier Best Newcomer award for his debut Edinburgh solo show Gentlemen Prefer Brogues.

Miles stays on top of current affairs as a regular panellist on Have I Got News For You, 8 Out Of 10 Cats, Mock The Week, and Never Mind The Buzzcocks, and writes material for numerous TV and radio programmes.

Indeed, he has contributed to a number of Radio 4 shows, including Arthur Smith’s Balham Bash, The Vote Now Show, and Loose Ends, and has had his own series Miles Jupp’s Real World (co-performed with Frankie Boyle).

His acting roles have been as diverse as playing Archie in the children’s series Balamory to John Duggan in the ‘sweary’ political comedy The Thick Of It. He has appeared in blockbusters Harry Potter, Sherlock Holmes, Johnny English Reborn, and The Monuments Men, as well as the films Death Defying Acts, Is Anybody Out There,Made In Dagenham, and The Last Sparks Of Sundown.

Meanwhile, he continues to create laughs in the likes of Every Day Rage, Dinner Party Chit Chat, Is The Chap You’re Thinking Of, Gary:Tank Commander, and podcasts for the Guardian newspaper. In the same year that he performed at the New Zealand Comedy Festival, he completed filming for the BBC2 sitcom Rev, which won the South Bank Sky Arts Award for Best Comedy.

A cricket fan since he was a wee nipper, Miles wrote the book Fibber In The Heat which recounts how he bluffed his way into the press corps during England’s 2006 Test series in India.

He is unable to watch as much of the game as he would like these days, however, as the actor-comedian is kept busy with his five children, not to mention his rising stardom on film, television and radio.
