Geoff Miller: After Dinner Speakers

With former England cricketer Geoff Miller at the helm throughout English cricket’s golden era, the team won successive Ashes victories. Now a highly amusing, engaging, and popular after dinner speaker, his dry northern wit and numerous anecdotes from his time on the cricket pitch have secured his star status at a variety of sporting functions and dinners.

A hugely respected figure in the world of cricket, both through his time playing the game and his responsibilities afterwards, it’s hard to argue that there’s a man who knows more about the game than Geoff Miller, OBE.

Following his retirement, Geoff has established himself as a highly entertaining after dinner speaker with brilliant comic timing and numerous tales from his time playing. He speaks at a variety of sporting functions and dinners - company hospitality days, golf days, charity evenings and rotary events.

A former England test stalwart, the first National Selector of the ECB and most recently President of Derbyshire County Cricket Club, throughout his life and career, Geoff has always maintained an active interest in one of our country’s most loved sports.

He spent twenty years on the professional cricket circuit, representing Derbyshire, Essex, Natal and England, travelling to all the major Test playing countries and playing with or against all of the present-day greats: to which he freely admits, “I wasn’t one of them”.

In 2008, Geoff was selected as National selector by the England & Wales Cricket Board.

Apart from cricket, Geoff’s greatest attribute was the ability to keep his team mates amused with his hilarious dry northern humour, which he now brings to the after dinner speaking stage from his roots in Chesterfield.  “I’ve always thought that both life and the game of cricket are taken far too seriously and it is necessary to see the funny side on occasions.”

By virtue of the sport he was in, and the life he has led, Geoff now possesses a whole host of hilarious anecdotes and stories about himself and his colleagues. Naturally, cricket is not the only subject to be put under the microscope in his search for amusement.

In 2013, he was awarded an OBE in the New Year's Honours List.

He has found his new career as an after dinner speaker just as stimulating facing Michael Holding and Dennis Lillee, or bowling at Viv Richards and Ian Botham (who he roomed with on tour for five years!)

Drawing on his vast knowledge of the game, he entertains the crowds at corporate events and sporting dinners up and down the country and overseas.
